Technology

Milwaukee Police Foundation

Transparency and accountability are key to building trust in our Milwaukee community. The Milwaukee Police Foundation (MPF) continuously helps invest in new technology that promotes fair policing practices, such as:

  • Body-worn cameras (BWC) assist department members in performing their duties by providing an accurate and unbiased recording of interactions between police members and the public.
  • Specialized Police Intelligence and Data Resource (SPIDR) is a fully automated system that shares prompt communication and promotes transparency while sending crime victims and reporting parties pertinent information and case updates via text or email.
  • Automated license plate readers (ALPR) automatically locate, focus on, and photograph license plates and vehicles within the device’s range. Police are notified when a scanned license plate matches one on the Be On the Lookout (BOLO) list.
  • Cell Site Simulators can help pinpoint the location of a criminal’s phone connected to the simulator within a specific range.

As technology improves, the MPF will continue to help implement innovations into MPD policies to provide transparent and efficient service to the community.
